Looloo the Shih tzu

About Looloo

Looloo is a sweet 5-year-old lovely girl who is learning the ropes of being a well-loved companion after retiring from being a mama to litters. She is incredibly gentle, calm, super smart and quick to catch-on and just an amazing dog. Being new to the life of a cherished pet, she needs understanding, patience, and a home that will show her the way.

Although she may appear to be a couch potato with her calm demeanor, she loves to be active, at 5 years old she gives off adolescent-puppy energy—so no lap-dog life for her! She is quickly learning what it's like to live in a home, enjoying lots of petting, endless attention, and engaging in play.

Looloo is very curious and, even with several fur-friends to hang out with, she prefers to follow her human around at all times , she just NEEDS to know what this human is doing at all times. She has quickly learned that by stretching her head up, she gets the perfect under-the-chin scratches. She knows where the best spot on the couch is (right next to another warm body), has learned to go up steps (still working on going down—looking down is scary!), and is catching on to toilet training by going outside every two hours during the day. She doesn't yet know how to signal when she needs to go out.

Mandatory Needs:

  1. Someone Home Most of the Day: It's very important that someone in the household is home and has the patience to continue showing her how to be a companion dog. At least one person who works from home or is home most of the day is required.
  2. Separation Training: She is still learning that her human will come back, so separation training in small increments is needed. It may take several weeks before she adjusts to being left alone for longer periods of a few hours, but she will get there once she knows she is safe and home.
  3. Detached Living Space: She is very quiet 90% of the time, but when left alone (even with other animals) or she doesn't see you, she can be vocal. While separation training is happening, she may be heard by any attached neighbors.
  4. Sleeping Arrangements: Must be okay with a dog in your bed, as she is not ready to be too far from her human during the night- she will let you know too. Good thing she is small and doesn't pillow-hog and likes to be at her foster's feet.
  5. Experience with Dogs: Looloo will need a home that has experience with dogs and training so she can continue to learn with confidence.
  6. Safe Space When Alone: She should be set up in a safe place (baby gates, open ceiling pen) while left alone—not a crate, as she really doesn't tolerate the crate. She's new to the house environment, and items like toilet paper or bags left by the door look like great things to investigate.
  7. Joint Health: While she is quite athletic, keeping her joints healthy by providing little stairs (training required) to prevent her from jumping-off the couch or beds is important. Currently, she is being lifted.
  8. Active Household: Even though she loves to lounge about, she needs someone who will exercise and play with her daily. She is only 5 years old, has the energy of a puppy, and has many more years of vibrant energy to come.
  9. Fenced-in Yard: A completely fenced-in yard where she can safely get her zoomies out.

Looloo currently lives with her foster's two senior cats. Her first encounter was curious, but she soon realized they are not into playing and now ignores them. She would love a canine companion—though it's not a necessity if she can get all her playtime with her humans and interact with other dogs she will be ok. She currently has a 50 lbs foster dog sister, and they love to play; she also loves to snuggle up for warmth and her bigger sitter is showing her the ropes

All-in-all,we know her great looks and beautiful personality will be wanted by many. Choosing the perfect home for Looloo will be all about what is best for Looloo and she can only go to one home. If you feel you fit all the requirements. the first step is filling out an application

Surrenders

Here at Rosie Animal Adoption, we understand that the decision to give up a family pet is not always an easy one and that the dog's best interests are always of paramount importance. Whether you have a family pet or a stray to surrender, please be aware that there are many unscrupulous people who are always on the lookout for unaltered dogs to breed strictly for profit. Dogs kept for this purpose, be it by a “backyard breeder” or “puppy miller,” are usually kept in inhumane conditions that are worse than you can imagine. We get many calls from people who are “in a hurry” to re-home their dogs, claiming that they simply cannot wait. With the increasing number of homeless dogs in the province of Quebec , our resources are always stretched to the limit and we do not always have immediate openings. We would ask that you please be patient when contacting our volunteers to surrender a dog.

We will do our best to help you as quickly as we can, and may also be able to refer you to another group that we are affiliated with, but the most important message here is to proceed very cautiously if you are giving away or selling your dog to someone who may be portraying a private individual. The best thing you can do is to be sure to have your pet spayed or neutered and the worse thing you can do is offer an unaltered pet “free to a good home.” We have seen what can happen.
